Isle Royale & Keweenaw Parks Association 2018 Annual Membership Meeting and Events
The Isle Royale & Keweenaw Parks Association's 2018 annual membership meeting will follow the presentation below on Saturday, July 28. Members are invited to join us for the meeting, which will include refreshments.
Thursday, July 26: Keweenaw National Historical Park Woody Invasive Plant Management Service Project. Open to the public with advance registration. 9 AM - noon, 1-4 PM. Assist National Park Service staff with exotic plant removal to help expose a foundation ruin near the intersection of US-41 and No. 2 Road on Quincy Hill, advancing the Park's cultural landscape preservation efforts. Participants should bring lunch and snacks. NPS staff will provide an orientation, water, shade canopy, tools/equipment, and protective gear. No previous experience is necessary. Saturday, July 28 Presentation: Challenges of Invasive Plant Species on Isle Royale and the Keweenaw Peninsula. Open to the public. Everyone welcome! 1:00 PM, Keweenaw National Historical Park's Calumet Visitor Center. Presenter: Isaiah Messerly, biologist with the National Park Service Great Lakes Exotic Plant Management Team, St. Croix Falls, WI.
Tuesday, July 31 through Saturday, August 4: Isle Royale Exotic Plant Removal Service Trip (IRKPA members only, limited to 10 participants). Join us to help Isle Royale National Park manage exotic plant species near Daisy Farm and Rock Harbor. Volunteers are provided with round-trip boat transportation from Houghton, MI, via the Ranger III and from Rock Harbor to Daisy Farm, park entrance fees, instruction, tools, and group camping at Daisy Farm.
